Ellen Page 'scared' by presidential rhetoric on LGBT rights

Tue. January 26, 2016

Out actress Ellen Page said this week from the Sundance Film Festival that she was "scared" by presidential rhetoric on LGBT rights.

The 28-year-old actress was in Park City, Utah for the screening of her new movie, Tallulah, in which she plays a free-spirited woman accused of kidnapping a baby.

"In regards to LGBT rights and of lots of other rights for all minorities really, clearly there's been a scary rhetoric that makes me feel sad and disheartened and, you know, scared," Page told the AP. "I hope it won't be the case. I hope we'll have people who operate from a place of love and are striving for true equality."

"But, it's democracy," she added with a laugh.

Late last year, Page, who came out in 2014, knocked Republican presidential candidates Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee, saying that they seem "homophobic."
