Carrie Fisher wrote her autobiographical book Wishful Drinking back in 2008. Since then she has created a show around it bringing to Broadway and finally to Chicago.
Her Hollywood 101 segment linking her celebrity family like Showtime's L Word was a classic. Older audience members will get a kick out of it.
There was a lot of glitter onstage but not necessary as she kept the set very casual in a living room.

It is better to have not seen the HBO special before the live version. I suggest that audiences go surprised by Carrie's wit and humor because it doesn't venture off the special.
Fisher lambast Star Wars, which is an easy target. Being a Pez dispenser might mess with anyone's head.
I have a mutual friend in common with Carrie, my roommate from college Michael Rosenbaum. He told me Carrie once requested a picture of his Lex Luthor character on Smallville for her daughter. In return he asked for a picture of her in the bikini in Empire Strikes Back and she sent it complete with a racy autograph. He also mentioned her celebrity parties and Alec Baldwin acting crazy on the front porch. He makes an appearance in this show along with that sarcasm of Fishers.

I wonder what Paul Simon thought of his part? Carrie takes it easy on her mother Debbie Reynolds probably because she got her good in Postcards From the Edge.
Wishful Drinking has a short run so grab a drink and head to the Bank of America Theatre before October 15. For tickets visit http://www.broadwayinchicago.com.

Rosie O'Donnell mentioned to me last week that she is reading Shockaholic, which is Carrie's new book and is having her on The Rosie Show. Maybe Fisher will bring this book to the stage as well in the future, raise your lightsaber if you agree!
