A Race to the Bottom: Lindsay vs. Mel

Lindsay Lohan has had quite a week. After being sentenced to 90 days in jail followed by 90 days of in-patient rehab for violating probation from a 2007 drug and alcohol case, she was dumped by her lawyer. Her jail sentence is set to begin on July 20. Sources close to Lindsay say she has no intention of spending time in the slammer and that she thinks she can get out of serving time on appeal… except she can't get a lawyer to take her case. After only one meeting with Chicago Attorney, Stuart V. Goldberg, the lawyer turned down the case stating, "…she's a fragile lost child… a sleeping beauty with her head in the sand." I think that's rather kind.

As if she doesn't have enough problems… imagine dealing with the wrath of Joan Rivers. The 77 year old comedian took to Twitter to berate the actress tweeting such quips as "Lohan is so dumb. Her idea of being sworn in is cursing at the judge." (remember her four letter manicure?) and "I was just reading about the new Lindsay Lohan diet, which is all liquid. 80 Proof."

Strangely enough it was Lohan's ex, Samantha Ronson who came to her defense responding with this tweet: "Hey Joan Rivers- you have collagen older than Lindsay, pick on someone your own age, oh wait, I guess people that old can't hear". Next thing you know, Lohan and Ronson were were spotted together at a sushi restaurant in Beverly Hills and later ended up at Lohan's condo in West Hollywood.

To top off her troubles, tracks from Lohan's new song were leaked to celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, of all people. And talk about creepy… the song is titled, "Too Young to Die" and features such uplifting lyrics as: "Crashing my car, coming flying through the windshield . Falling in love with ya, I'm gonna get me killed . I'm too young to die."

All this media coverage could work in Lilo's favor. After all she has an album, two movies, and a fashion line all set to debut in the near future. The curiosity factor could help with sales… or people may say "enough is enough" and put an end to her career.

Mel Gibson, on the other hand is doing a good job all on his own bringing his career to a screeching halt. After dumping his wife, deserting his 7 children, having a drunken racist rant caught on tape, having his last movie bomb at the box office, and being dropped by his agent… he's done it again. Radaronline got their hands on a tape recorded by his former girlfriend (the woman he left his wife for and has a child with) Oskana Grigorieva. She recorded a phone conversation with Gibson where… well you just have to listen to it. It is so laced with profanity and anger towards Grigorieva, it's pointless to write it out omitting the curse words. If you can handle disturbingly direct foul language you can listen to by clicking this link. Warning: It's harsh and radaronline has posted it sans "bleeps."

Joan Rivers chimed in on the Mel Gibson situation telling "The Insider" what she thinks of the future of Mel's career: "I think it will be terrific. He'll get bigots lining up. Do you know what this is going to do for the linen industry? All the Ku Klux Klan members will be lining up to see Mel Gibson movies. The white sales will be amazing at Bloomingdales."
