Founded in 2009 by two brothers from California, Dos Toros Taqueria is a chain of restaurants with around 20 locations. While primarily in New York and Washington, D.C., the Windy City became its home at 1 North Dearborn Street in 2017. The Loop location closed in 2022, but now returns to the same spot with a fresh attitude.

Dos Toros or “two bulls,” is situated in a bustling area of Downtown Chicago, flanked by gold entrances. As guests enter the building, an open kitchen greets them to the right, where they may place their order to see food prepared on an assembly line and pay at the register.

There's additional seating for in-house diners who ascend a massive staircase that allows a bird's-eye view from the top. There are booths in the above space, plus shareable tables that can be moved and reconfigured for larger parties.

The menu is packed with traditional Mexican-inspired offerings and recipes are prepared daily from scratch as much as possible. Carnitas are stewed overnight and the chicken is marinated for a robust flavor that's truly unique.

This thriving brand specializes in Mission-style burritos, meaning an overstuffed with fillings soft flour tortilla, which originated in the Mission District of San Francisco in the 1960s.

Shipping things these days comes with challenges, but organic tortillas from Mi Rancho in Elk Grove, California, were worth the expense.

Burrito is the Spanish equivalent of “little donkey,” but in this restaurant's case, they were not horsing around on the ingredients.

Start with a fresh salad or hearty nachos topped with white queso. Chunky guacamole made from Hass avocados will fill one's hungry soul, then add a side of spiced sweet potatoes to the mix. Other sides include rice and beans or elevate your dish with some spiced brussels sprouts.

Finish off the meal with a Dulce de Leche Brownie or Cinnamon Swirl Cookie, then wash it all down with a Mexican Coke or Jarrito.

Expect a delicious experience when entering this elegant golden establishment, so take this bull by the horns today!

Dos Toros Taqueria officially opens to the public on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The company is giving back to the community by donating all of the opening day's proceeds to Nourishing Hope, a nonprofit organization with social service programs.
