Chicago Firehouse Restaurant sparked up fun on Fat Tuesday

Chicago Firehouse Restaurant is located at 1401 South Michigan Avenue in an iconic building that was landmarked in 2003. The interior has been modernized and curated with embellishments while still respecting the longtime history of the hotspot in the South Loop.

The venue is divided into sections on several floors to accommodate special events with three separate dining rooms. There's an outdoor patio for taking in the surrounding views and a secluded lower-level speakeasy to immerse in.

For the seventh time, the Firehouse treated patrons to a Fat Tuesday celebration. The day before Ash Wednesday lends itself to fatty fare and beads everywhere.

Presenting an array of traditional New Orleans cuisine as part of the buffet had hungry ticket holders lining up to dig in. During the busiest time periods the ravenous crowd needed more direction on what path to follow when loading up their plates from the chaffing dishes. Scansions and signs for next year could solve the flow of diners not knowing which way to go.

The staff worked hard on February 13 to replenish favorites such as the seafood gumbo and jambalaya. The trio of Blue Point Oysters, creamy spinach and Italian Asiago cheese had guests returning for more Oysters Rockefeller and the jalapeño cheddar cornbread muffins were small but mighty.

New items in 2024 included a spicy crawfish boil and dessert at the Cafe du Monde beignet bar.

Speaking of bars, there was plenty to drink with festive hurricane cocktails on more than one floor. Live music was held in the foyer and below in The Blue Room during the celebration.

Thanks to the team at Firehouse, Chicagoland residents didn't have to travel all the way to Louisiana to enjoy the final day of Mardi Gras once again this year.
