On November 17, 2022, a celebration kicked off around the atrium of the 900 North Michigan Avenue Shops with several hours of festivities. This area was transformed into a winter wonderland experience by Kehoe Designs for lucky ticket holders during a special evening.

It has been a three-hiatus for this organization's event because of complications with the pandemic, but this year marked a return to the annual tradition.

Titled Illuminate 900, this tree lighting ceremony raises money for Make A Wish Illinois which grants wishes for children with critical illnesses.

The Real Elf was on hand for selfie "selfie" opportunities and other various characters strolled about to meet people for chances to take a photo as part of the fun. Tin soldiers marched throughout the space and singer Evelyn Galstad wore a giant winged snow angel costumed as she performed several operatic versions of holiday classics.

Ballet Chicago danced several excerpts from The Nutcracker and Forward Momentum kept things current with their contemporary dance acts sprinkled over the two-hour event.

Sugar cookie decoration presented by Sur La Table gave many a chance to be creative with snacks and beverage offerings gifted nearby. Attendees patiently waited in long lines at times to take a photo on the large sled and to take part in craft-making from Bubbles Academy.

Members of The Chicago Blackhawks were in attendance to countdown until the moment that the 55-foot-tall Christmas tree was lit at 7:30 p.m. accompanied by children's carolers and Santa Claus's exuberant merry cheer.

A good time was had by all and displayed a peek at what is in store for holiday shoppers during this magical season!
