Patio weather is still apparent in Chicago and no one has quite the unique view that River Roast does to enjoy a brunch that begins at 11:30 a.m and runs until 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Located inside the Reid Murdoch Building, 315 N. LaSalle Street, this contemporary tavern has one of the best views in the city.

Executive chef Cedric Harden has curated a concise menu full of options to satisfy almost any taste.

Begin your culinary adventure with a bloody mary or a refreshing Bodegas Borsao rose from Spain. There are mimosa kits with fresh berries and juices to pair with prosecco to really get the party started if desired.

Don't skip over the appetizer known as the Golden Goblet with a batch of seasoned fried chicken served in a basket and a side of honey. The shrimp and crab toast was unforgettable with four slices of fried brioche bread topped with avocado and shrimp mousse.

For entrees sample the eggs benedict for a lightly smoked salmon accompanied by onions, capers and a spicy hollandaise sauce. Take things over the top with tableside carvings of chicken. The half serving is plenty to digest with roasted potatoes right on the side. Rosemary, oregano and thyme are slid right under the skin of the chicken to bring out the robust flavors in the meat. Waiting time can be 20-30 minutes in the oven, but well worth it for this signature dish that must be tried.

Side dishes can be added to the experience including grilled carrots, yogurt and toast, among the choices.

If somehow there is still room in your stomach pick a dessert such as the massive carrot cake or lighter Florida key lime pie.

The venue contains several private event spaces in the elongated eastern part of the restaurant that would be perfect for a drag brunch one day. I've attended several past gatherings in the area and with possibilities ranging from small parties to 300 people so the sky is truly the limit in what could be created there. Adding some live soft jazz music to the outdoor patio would add to the atmosphere as well.

The memorable dishes and stunning views are the current focal points of this establishment. The friendly staff and support team have created a place to be proud of from top to bottom.
