Yours Truly, has something for you

There's a new bar in town and it's called Yours Truly, 613 N. Wells. Described as an "upscale sports bar," this place seemed very different than that concept on the night I visited. The focus was more on the martinis that evening and the lighting cast a golden hue on the upscale surroundings. Sure, there were sports games playing on the televisions behind the bar, but the other half of the room held up a romantic ambience. 

Creating a perfect place for a date night is what the team has certainly accomplished thanks to the intimate tables lined up and the cozy booths that run along the perimeter. There is seating in the lounge available for over 100 people and private parties are welcome, should one desire to rent out the room. 

While a full array of beer and wine, mostly focusing on California, is offered, the martinis are what this establishment will be known for. Yours Truly, uses a rounded martini glass, also known as a margarita glass, to hold their concoctions. 

This makes it easier for garnishes to be displayed and will hopefully prevent accidents. The v-shaped glass has always been problematic, not only for being fragile but slippery when wet as well. The traditional glass holds more alcohol, but the mixologists at Yours Truly, make up for that with a heavy hand. 

Start with Not Your Mothers Cosmo containing Kettle One Vodka, hibiscus tea and orange Combier triple sec. There are hints of grapefruit and mint to enhance the drink. Follow that with a fall fruit fusion called the Apple Spiced Tini. Ingredients include Grey Goose La Poire, Calvados apple brandy, apple cider and cinnamon smoke. It's a well thought out cocktail that will leave patrons satisfied.

Try another family member inspired martini with the Not Your Grandfathers Daquiri that mixes together Barcardi Rum, daiquiri bitters and demerara syrup. Definitely not Grandpa Nunn's daiquiri, since he didn't drink! 

The separate cocktail choices cover a wide range of territory including an original The Yours Truly, with mint and cucumber Ketel One Vodka. Some continue the fresh fruit narrative such as The Botanical with Hendrix Gin and orange blossom water. 

The bar bites are kept simple such as the Hummus Trio of smoked sweet potatoes, red peppers and avocado hummus. The spinach and artichoke dip is served with tortilla chips in a martini glass. Wings and burgers are also offered for those that are looking for more hearty sustenance. 

Restaurant owner Adolfo Garcia continues to build his empire on the block after his nearby success at The Diver in a space that was previously used by the Mason. Guests can continue their night on the town with Yours Truly, being just the right swanky, new hot spot to be seen in the River North area.
