Chicago's first matcha-focused cafe, Matchacita, at 705 W. Belden Avenue, held a grand opening this week in Lincoln Park. The establishment picked a good time to launch the eatery and juice bar with beautiful weather that had locals coming out in droves over the weekend.

Playing off of the term "mamacita" and the popularity of matcha brought the team of Bianca Pearson and Zach Segal together to create a new, much needed, business. Matcha is a powder from green tea leaves that packs a punch with a concentrated amount of antioxidants for health conscious consumers.

Say hello to a friendly staff and start off with the Bluetiful Latte that contains blue spirulina, blueberries and almond milk. It is a layered drink that grows better when mixed together. Spirulina is a type of blue green algae that is completely good for you, even reducing blood pressure and possibly lower blood sugar as well.

I also sampled the Pink Pitaya that filled my stomach like a complete breakfast thanks to the bananas, strawberries, peanut butter and almond milk in the recipe!

Be sure and order the avocado lox that can be served on gluten free toast for an extra $1.29. Something about the black pepper and pink Himalayan salt gave the toast just the right amount of crunch.

The menu offers quite a variety of options with everything from waffles to a rainbow of lattes. The group has even partnered with Lifted Made's Urb THC gummies and accessories that I recently reviewed. Guests can pick up those products right there at the counter.

The decor had a noticeable soothing feel to it with smart color choices in a bustling space. The team obviously work hard behind the scenes to make the owner's vision come to life as they darted out to serve up orders throughout the day Saturday.

It is already not hard to see that Matchacita will soon be squeezed out of space and will need a patio setup pronto for the upcoming summer months. This is a good problem to have when demand quickly meets opportunity at a unique new place.
