Bar Takito is located at 201 N Morgan St., in the West Loop area, at a prime location for a bustling business. Aside from a loud train station nearby, this Takito benefits from the foot traffic and a beautiful outdoor space full of flowers. The patio is the perfect place on a sunny day to sit down and enjoy what owner Mario Ponce has to offer to guests with his contemporary Latin American cuisine.

It was time to try the brunch and see what the cooks have dreamed up on bright Sunday. The variety of margaritas on the menu are a good place to start with the watermelon or cucumber flavored ones, mixed with Exotico tequila, in particular pair well with breakfast food. There is also the classic mojito or agua fresca that can be without alcohol if that is preferred.

Traditional guacamole, with an option to add grilled pineapple, to accompany the complimentary chips is a tasty way to begin the brunch. For entrees, move to the mains with the chilaquiles verde topped with queso fresco and a fried egg or the arepa benedict with mouthwatering pulled pork. Ever had an arepa that was overcooked and greasy? Well, I have and this was not the case here with this sample being light and fluffy.

The dessert menu should be expanded with housemade flan or possibly some sweet plantains to complete the experience.

The menu may currently be paired down to sustain a concise kitchen during COVID. At some point, the chefs at the various Takito locations will be able to experiment and have fun. It's a difficult time for restaurants this year, but Takito continues to follow current guidelines and enjoy a robust amount of patrons. The Takito Street Lincoln Park location is currently serving bottomless mimosas to stir up their brunch business.

Stay tuned for what Bar Takito has in store for regulars. One event I attended in the past for The Mix radio station had a real live burro to meet and greet as I entered the festive atmosphere indoors!
