New restaurant Fresh Stack Burger Co, at 20413 N. Rand Road in Kildeer, Illinois, officially opened on May 11. It was not the crowded fanfare that would usually happen to a unique place like this due to the stay at home orders that were currrently happening. Diners had to settle for carry out and delivery with the drive-thru planned to open the following week.

Fresh Stack is a collaboration between Sean Thomas and Chef Fabio Viviani to make an inviting space that will draw in patrons for a quick burger and shake. Sean Thomas is the grandson of the famous creator of the Wendy's fast food chain named Dave Thomas. His aunt is Wendy, namesake for the restaurant group founded in Ohio back in 1969.

The decor of Fresh Stack has an elevated feeling to it, with a nice sized dining room, a welcoming bar and an outdoor covered patio. The bathrooms are decorated in a modern style and the kitchen is shiny and clean with an open concept.

"Where's the beef?" Well, right there on the menu, offered in a variety of burgers such as the backyard stack with American cheese, house sauce on a brioche bun. The pickled jalapeno adds a little spice and the onion strings are soaked for 24 hours in red wine then lightly battered and fried, then served with a side of sauce. Other options are to go bunless, use a lettuce bun or a gluten-free whole wheat bun.

Chicken sandwiches and several salads are also on the menu for those that stay away from beef.

A real showstopper is the fries-cream cone shake. Inspired by customers at Wendy's dipping their fries into their Frostys, this dessert turns the chocolate ice cream cone upside down and tops it with crispy fry sticks and whipped cream. This shake is guaranteed to bring back guests and is a good item to add liquor to when the bar eventually opens.

It's a tricky time for the restaurant business currently, but the welcoming attitude of Sean and the gang is quite refreshing. Get ready for a busy time when the surrounding shopping centers open up and hungry shoppers will stop in Fresh Stack Burger Co to fill up.
