A Touch of Brazil in the 'Burbs

Texas de Brazil Churrascaria recently opened in the Orland Square Mall in Orland Park, Illinois. Located actually outside the mall, but still attached at 856 Orland Square Drive, it's almost a free standing restaurant and is the third location in Illinois and the 62nd in the chain.

The large salad bar greets guests at the front and is packed full of not only salad accompaniments, but delicious side items such as asparagus and seasonal soups.

After settling down and sipping a smooth caipirinha made with a Brazilian rum called cachaca, then prepare for the meat to overwhelm your stomach.

Gauchos patrol the dining area with various meat options and patrons can flip their card to red or green depending on their desire for more or less. They will approach tableside to serve up selections.

The experience can be a little disruptive to conversations, but the meat carvers are polite and respectful, while being helpful.

Chicken, shrimp and ribs are all offered throughout the night with my favorite being the picanha cut of beef.

For many it will be difficult to save room for dessert, but you will be glad you did with items such as the chocolate mousse cake and creme brulee.

Whether living in the area or just passing through, the Orland Park location makes a great addition to the Chicago and Schaumburg restaurants.
