Outdoor concerts blow through the Windy City

Why be crowded in a closed up dusty venue when there are outdoor music opportunities in the Chicago area to explore?

There is so much incredible music to experience in Illinois with major musical acts heading our way throughout the year.

The Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre has had several name changes over the years, but the fact remains the same, it's a massive and rewarding venue to see people perform in. The Tinley Park drive can be intimidating and parking bothersome, but if one plans an early arrival and exits before the last song, it can be easy.

The teamup is Kesha and Macklemore was worth the trip recently. The duo kept the audience on their toes with unexpected hot dog throwing and golden tickets under their chairs. The audience will remember their duet of "Good Old Days" for a long time.

The Dave Matthews Band concert packed fans into the Huntington Bank Pavillion recently. Thanks to Dreaming Tree Wines I had something to sip on and enjoy the beautiful evening near the lake.

Parking can be tricky in this area so public transportation is recommended. There are many more artists coming this way in the future like friends to the Nunn Charlie Puth and Hailee Steinfeld so stay tuned.

The outstanding Broadway singer Audra McDonald sang at the Women's Board Gala on July 15 at Ravinia Festival. Just a quick drive to Highland Park was well worth it to see the Sunday in the Park with Audra. She began with "I Am What I Am" and didn't stop with her appreciation for her LGBT fans until the final encore with "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."

An elegant dinner followed in a nearby air conditioned tent for attendees. From picnics to the pavillion, Ravinia always provides a festive concert going experience.

Check out the complete schedule at Ravinia.org.

Look for more outdoor concert experiences with Lollapalooza, Riot Fest and multiple street festivals in the next few months. I am off to Pitchfork Music Festival to catch some new music with a breeze!
