Big Gay Theatre Week

It is turning into a bright pink world already this year as Priscilla, Queen of the Desert drives into town. In the new Pride Films and Plays space this show plays pretty well with a two sided audience view. The cast did a great job at angling so everyone can see.

After seeing the Broadway In Chicago version, this scaled down rendition mostly hit the right marks. It has a different feel to see the story so up close and personal. The plot still works and is sadly not outdated when bullying and violence erupt.

The costuming was spectacular and the projected screen depicting moments throughout the story was a nice touch.

Honey West had the best lines as Bernadette and the trio sang well together. All of the supporting cast were top notch. Priscilla is such a feel good musical and it was difficult not to sing-a-long to many of the hits that were so upbeat.

The Temperamentals have arrived in town and things will never be the same. About Face Theatre continues to bring content that will challenge an audience and educate them at the same time.

Many youngsters may not be familiar with the story of the Mattachine Society and how the organization shaped the rights of the LGBT community.

Do Gaga's Little Monsters even know that temperamental was a term for gay people back in the day?

The story follows a group of gays who discuss the difficulties of life while holding meetings to deal with discrimination. Rob Lindley and Alex Weisman especially stand out and deliver lines in just the right manner. The history lesson lulls in parts but is an important one to learn for people in and out of our community.
