Gila Bites the City

There's a new lizard in town and he lives in Lincoln Park. Adobe Gila's combines the thing I love with the thing I hate.

As a child in Oklahoma we were terrrorized with warnings of poisonous gila monsters attacking us. The fear was real and still gives my shivers to this day.

One of my favorite drinks even in the winter time is a margarita with salt.

Bring them both together and the results can be hazardous. Having tried the location at Rosemont it is nice to see one hitting the city and right now the street from Uncle Julio's Hacienda. The places are different but could create a little healthy competition. Back in it's hey day when I bartended there Hacienda had no competition in the area. Times have definitely changed.

Kicking off Cinco de Mayo this casual atmosphere celebrated with an early party on cuartro de Mayo. Spicy salsa and chips filled the room and tacos were in every corner. The 1500 N Clybourn Avenue location provided a lively '90s music cover band that rocked and brought their own smoke machine. This really added to the fun fiesta.

Right in the heart of the massive New City rennovation is a hopping new place to relax and have a good time.

Look for weekly events like salsa and DJs performing.

The celebration continues this week until May 8 with proceeds going to BBF Family Services, a local nonprofit that improves the quality of life for North Lawndale families.
