As the saying goes on the TV show Game of Thrones "Winter is coming" so this makes a good time to head to warmer climates. In 2015 I found Arizona to be a hot spot that recharged my batteries during the cold months in Chicago. February and March make the best time to getaway from frigid weather and fly south like a bird.

There are many regions to explore in the surrounding areas of Phoenix.

Tempe is known for sports teams and spring training. There is also a thriving music and art scene. The Metro Light Rail connects Tempe to Phoenix and Mesa.

Fishing, hiking, and golf rule in Peoria in the Sonoran Desert while Sedona has an African Wildlife Park and is only 100 miles south of the Grand Canyon.

Yuma provides outdoor adventure with the Colorado River running through it. Grab a tube and float into town!

Take a train excusion with Verde Canyon Railroad and 360 degree views. Feel VIP and reserve a car to host a tasting event that is especially made for private groups.

The places to stay are numerous but try the historic Wigwam in Litchfield Park. Along with some new renovations the place has gone green with farm to table dining and community events such as a weekly farmer's market.

Another must try is the Sheraton Grand Phoenix including five distinctive restaurants and is a stand out with properties around the globe.

Phoenix has some of the best spas in the world so try not to be overwhelmed. Try to venture out and find one that works for you. The hot stone massage will warm you up and the body wraps will cool you down.

Arizona is definitely the place to rejuvenate for the northern native who is looking for fun in the sun after a tough winter.
