Article written by Karlis Streips on the front page of Gay Life begins:
"Sherriff's officials in Lake County, Ill., have a possible suspect in a string of murders in Illinois and Indiana. Lake County investigator Willie Smith told Gay Life last week that the man, who was not identified, was apprehended by authorities but released after interrogation because sufficient evidence did not exist to charge him with any murders. Authorities did, however, impound the man's pickup truck, as well as a pair of shoes, some rope, and a 'bloodstained knife.' Those items were sent to an FBI laboratory for analysis to determine whether any of the items can be linked to the slaying of Ralph E. Calise, who was found dead Aug. 31. Meanwhile, a Chicago man has filed suit against the department and several other law enforcement officials, charging that he was unlawfully detained by lake County officials, as well as by Indiana authorities. Sheriff's spokesman refused to disclose whether their possible suspect is the same man who has filed suit. That man is Larry Eyler, 3249 N. Greenview."
