No More Drama, Momma!

All the world is a stage and Chicago has so many theater offerings rivaling many cities. When it rains it pours and this week I was Nunning all over town from one show to the next.
The Dark Emperor from the Star Wars movies brought a rare Shakespeare production called Timon of Athens to Navy Pier's Shakespeare Theatre. Even those that don't understand the language can appreciate the modernization and top notch cast in this bard's tale.
The Goodman Theater debuted The Iceman Cometh with a stellar cast although after three intermissions I realized I was in for the long haul lasting 5 hours! I was so hungry at the after party that I visited the buffet twice. Poor Nathan Lane has huge speeches and Brian Dennehy is onstage almost the entire time. There is no reason to shave this show down unless it is a clause in Eugene's will.
Jazzy SPider Saloff's one woman show was much shorter the next night. I really enjoyed the story of a dead drag queen's friends and Spider's voice reminded me of Lena Horne brining me back to my Sesame Street days. It's not easy being pink!
A line down the block kicked off Hell in a Handbag's campy new show at Mary's Attic. Don't miss a spoof on the movie Obsessed as part of the pageant.
Afterwards I headed up to Steppenwolf's gala to see Gary Sinise's Lt. Dan Band play live and enjoy a cocktail at Blackbird.
This week there are theater awards back at Navy Pier and Friday has the Goodman going cabaret for their gala. The drama never stops at least until Mother's Day!
