How fast should I run from a bad relationship

BY Darling Darby ("Ask Darby")

Dear Darby,

I love my partner but she has a bad temper and sometimes our arguments escalate into physical abuse. My friends all tell me to leave her for my safety.

Should I recommend counseling for both of us or just get out of the relationship?

Thank you for your letter, it is a warning and a reminder to us all what any form of abuse can do to a human being.

I have seen first hand how abusive relationships have caused misery and hardship to lives of people I have known.

Abuse is not only physical, but also can be experienced through emotional and mental measures.

Your description of your relationship with your partner leaves some open ended questions. How long have you both been together, when did this start, and what instigates the arguments, and how are they resolved?

No matter who starts the arguments, no matter how serious they are, no matter how long they last, it's not a healthy environment for either of you. I think you should confide in your doctor, a close friend, or relative.

Only you two are the players in this relationship. Only you know how serious this is. Think fairly, honestly, and carefully. I am only here to listen and guide. My suggestion is to take immediate action. The right and healthy one for you and your partner. And, if it is truly necessary, run don't walk to the closest exit!

Take care,

Princess Darby
