Is this road sign to love a dead end?

BY Darling Darby ("Ask Darby")

Dear Princess,

I have broken up with my boyfriend of 12 years just two years ago and I can't seem to move on. I have dated a lot and even went "steady" with someone for a couple of months but none of them have worked out.

I recently ran into my ex and he called a mutual friend of ours the next day asking things about me so I told this friend to give him my number and ask if I could call him.

He told our friend that he didn't think it would be a good idea. So apparently he doesn't even want to be friends.

This astonishes me because we were both such important influences on each others lives for so many years and spent so much time together that I can't see not even talking to him once in a while.

My question is if I should "chase" him down and pursue a friendship or wait for him to come around.

The waiting is driving me crazy! Help!

Dear Driving Me Crazy,

Why would you want to revisit a relationship that ended two years ago? The roadmap shows all indications that this relationship had its road blocks and reached a dead end.

Who are you waiting for? A person from the past who doesn't want to talk to you? Reread your last sentence of your letter. "...should "chase" him down and pursue a friendship..." The word friendship is a noun defined as "friendly relationship or feeling". Reconsider.

One can contemplate reconstructing the track of past love. But, often the pavement gets worn from the traction trying and disappointments. That's just a pancea.

Running into your "ex" may seem like a good idea, possibly safe, but slow down, read the signs, and take caution. If your "ex" told your friend that he didn't think it was a good idea to call him, then you've got your answer. Turn off, yield, and find the next exit.

There's a big country out there. Highways of opportunities further than your eyes can see. Take time, take a journey, and you will find the road to romance and friendship will take you on an adventure when you least expect it.

Enjoy the spring, and all that awaits you.

Princess Darby
