Wow, pretty disappointing experience at HM's yesterday. 2 years ago we moved out of town and for my first meal back in town for a visit, I went back for my fav burger & fries.
First, the fries - they have cut some corners and gone are the big, yummy, fluffy-inside, crispy-outside fries. They are now thin, greasy, and unappealing. I didn't eat more than 5.
The Big Kahuna Burger is gone and now there's a comparable burger with a much less-appealing pineapple chutney. Again, this feels like cost-cutting changes with the same high price.
I shared my disappointment with my server and while I got 10% off, it's about the HM experience that has kept me coming back for years.
Come on, Mary, you can do better!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jan 29, 2009Previous reviewThis is a great place to go anytime. We love the atmosphere, drink specials, and most certainly the Big Kahuna Burger!!
We went on a Monday night before NYE and they were having a bingo night. It was all in good fun and proceeds would benefit the Center on Halstead - http://www.centeronhalsted.org/ The funny thing was that during the whole bingo craziness they were playing The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers on their TVs. Crazy.
The place is great but I gave it 4 stars for two reasons: their service is sometimes slow and the mashed potatoes are nasty. :-( - Aug 9, 2020
Great hospitality, great burgers and options, cheerful staff I absolutely LOVE IT. The host was lovely. I really enjoyed the Disney rendition. The drag shows were good, my sister expected more pizzazz but I don't think the girls can do too much more considering Covid. I mean these queens are working it in the middle of the street (patio). I really, really loved Eboni! Easy street parking, masks encouraged when walking around Andersonville, if you don't have cash for the girls you have the option to tip via Venmo but the QR scan only worked with android which is strange. Excited to return for brunch! 20% gratuity is automatically included in your bill, which I think is an excellent idea - I gave more.

Is Mary's a chain? My daughter says there is one in Jacksonville FL as well. Either way, if you find yourself in Andersonville, do stop in for a fun bite and bev with the crew at Mary's.
Barbie took such wonderful care of us the day we stopped in for lunch, just lovely.
And surprise! The food is actually good. My wife commented that her garlic parm wings were some of the best she has had, and we have had them many a place.
My smoked salmon wrap with bacon and apples was yummy and delicious.
The fries that came with the sandwich were stringy and crunchy, just the way I like them.
Topped it off with a couple bloodies, at $10 per, not as good a deal as some places, so next time, I would probably opt for one of the beers they make next door, I had my eye on the Frank Lloyd Rye ;)
They bring you the bill in a high heel slipper, such a hoot!
I have not been here for a show, or the NYE party in the upstairs bar, but either way, I'm sure it is a good time for all.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Dec 16, 2018
I've been to my fair share of Drag Brunches, but I gotta tell ya - these queens give a hell of a show at 11am.
Something going on every day of the week; bingo, comedy, drags, djs, there is always something happening.
If you arent too keen on a show, the food is banging. I always get great service from the sassy servers. Food is great, lots of choices from breakfast foods to burgers to salads to comfort food. Cocktails are strong and Sundays offer bottomless mims.
Located in the Andersonville neighborhood, pretty safe place to walk and catch the 22 or an uber. Lots of shops and things to do if you come during the day.
Pro tip: don't forget your singles for Brunch.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Aug 6, 2018
Pros: What a fun place for diner and a show. We enjoyed the 7:30pm show through and through, the performers were fenomenal, the service was excellent, we had a great time!!! I only had wine, but all my buddies enjoyed their meals.
Will definitely return for the 9:30pm adult showHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Leslie!

We started a new tradition last year of visiting Andersonville the Saturday before Christmas to do small business shopping and to hit the artisan booth store. I love this eclectic community full of community members with friendly smiles and kind hearts.
This year we stepped into Hamburger Mary's late afternoon, so it was quiet, but I could tell that it could be a hopping place to hang out. We were immediately greeted and shown to a booth by Barbie - Barbie may have stolen my heart with her warm, yet slightly grumpy personality. When we asked what was good she said "We are a hamburger place - the hamburger - duh!" LOL
We had two Bloody Mary's that were nice and hairy. They are a bit more expensive than what we normally pay at $10 a pop, but then again, you are in a village close to the city.
My husband ordered a salmon wrap that he said was very good and I had the garlic Parmesan wings - the garlic was kicking and Barbie informed me that my husband wasn't going to be too happy with my breath! The wings were amazing! I will be back for these wings!
We will be back for the entertainment and more wings!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Kristen C.Chicago, IL14410432093Jun 11, 2020
It was my first time and it was a good time...food was better than expected!
Show was outstanding.. so many talented performers. Service is super fast. Mimosas are strong...you might not taste it but they are. Clean establishment. Fun they allow time after to take photos with you.
Will definitely go again!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1564655535Oct 16, 2017
Came for the food but stayed for the show. It was a a Saturday night in Andersonville. Tasty burgers they offer a wide selection to choose from and you can make it into a turkey burger, black bean burger, or Angus. First time here to Hamburger Marys and I'm so glad it did! It was so entertaining, but not my first drag show. It does get pretty loud once the drag show starts they have 2 shows 7:30pm which is PG and another at 9:30pm R rated if you know what I mean!? They accept tips so make sure you brings them dollars!
We ordered the Merry Flight which consisted the 3 brews from Andersonville and 1 Rotating IPA. Some of the cocktails were served in the boot and our check was brought in a high heel fancy. We also had a couple burgers a black bean fig one with goat cheese fries egg and turkey burger with avocado, white cheddar, and bacon. They have theme days throughout the weekends. I can't wait to try bingo night (something different).Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 309341501Feb 17, 2019
The food is not very good but you don't come here for the food, you come here for the show!
The Sunday drag brunch at 11am was a fun time. The Queens were full of energy and had great moves and style. The restaurant was filled with people of all ages and backgrounds and everyone seemed to enjoy the experience. This was my first time at a drag show and I thought it was great! Bring $1's!
As for food, I would not recommend the breakfast burrito which was basically potatoes wrapped up and my friends thought their burgers were just okay. The mimosa was good, although I don't think anyone should be ordering bottomless mimosas at $17 when regular mimosas are only $5. If you do the math, you would need 4 mimosas to come out ahead and with the service spotty, I honestly don't think the server would ever get you your 4th one within the two hour limit.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - 1555361534Mar 6, 2019
FOOD IS AMAZING!!! So we stopped in for the Drag competition but the food was a delicious surprise!! We had the mini Mary Sliders, MAC n Cheese fritters, chicken strips and the Fried Twinkie w/ice cream! Everything was delicious and I'm sad theirs not a Hamburger Mary's in every city!!
Devan, please check on your tables more often. Not sure if it's b/c the show is going on as well but it felt like I could never find my waiter when I really needed him.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
