Dan Hynes conceded the Democratic governor nomination to Gov. Pat Quinn this morning, telling a news conference that "we rose up but fell just a little short."
Hynes phoned the governor around 9:30 a.m., aides said, then made a public announcement shortly after 10 a.m.
"Well, the people have spoken, and the votes have been counted. And I'm here to report that we rose up but fell just a little short," Hynes said. "And if democracy means anything, it means that the campaign with more votes wins."

During his campaign, Hynes pledged support for full marriage equality while Quinn supports Civil Unions. Many LGBT activists are pleased that Hynes has been a vocal supporter, but those working in Springfield don't think obtaining gay marriage is possible yet.
On Sunday, Hynes reached out to the LGBT voters with a visit to Sidetrack in Boystown.
