Series to Premiere During 2000-01 Season

New York, NY - A multi-generation series about a 14-year-old Latina girl juggling her fast-paced school life and her traditional home; a twisted new Nicktoon about an alien spying on Earth in an elementary school; and a live action series about a Mexican- American family told from the point of view of the youngest of four kids are among eight innovative new series that will join Nickelodeon's top-rated lineup during 2000-2001. The announcement was made today by Cyma Zarghami, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Nickelodeon.

The new series slate will partner Nickelodeon with some of the most talented young creators in the animation, film, television and art world, including: Maria Perez-Brown, creator of the new series Taina and the creative force behind the popular Nick Jr. Series Gullah Gullah Island; Jeff Valdez of Si TV, executive producer and co-creator of The Brothers Garcia and renowned comic book writer/artist Jhonen Vasquez, creator of the animated series Invader Zim.

In addition to Taina, Invader Zim and The Brother's Garcia, joining the Nickelodeon lineup will be the live action series Noah Knows Best from creator Ken Lipman; and animated series The Fairly Oddparents (created by Butch Hartman), Chalk Zone (created by Larry Huber and Bill Burnett), As Told By Ginger (created by Emily Kapnek for Klasky Csupo) and the new interactive Nick Jr. series Dora the Explorer (from executive producers Brown Johnson, Chris Gifford and Valerie Walsh).

The new series will be added to a lineup that will also feature over 150 new hours of current Nickelodeon hits, including Rugrats, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2001, Nick Jr's preschool sensation Blue's Clues, SpongeBob SquarePants and Cousin Skeeter (See separate press release).

"Today's kids are growing up in a very different world than kids 20 years ago, and that is a world rich in culture and diversity," Zarghami said. "We believe that historical TV myths are meant to be broken and we are setting out to accomplish that again with this lineup that is innovative and puts kids first."

Albie Hecht, President of Film & Television, Nickelodeon added, "Last year we gave our development team the challenge to cast a wider net in the search of new talent behind and in front of the camera, and they delivered with shows that are imaginative and unique from anything on television today. These series celebrate creativity, great characters and diversity and bring kids more of what they have come to expect from Nickelodeon."
