Illinois rep. fires aide after alleged sexual encounter with teenage boy

Chicago, IL - Illinois Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-Plano) has fired a top aide after the staffer was found in a car last fall with a 17-year-old boy and no shirt on, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Nick Provenzano, 56, was reportedly dismissed by Hultgren over the weekend.

According to a police report obtained by the Tribune, the incident happened in October 2017 in McHenry, Ill. when an officer responded to a suspicious vehicle call. Provenzano was behind the wheel with his shirt off; the boy was clothed.

Provenzano told the officer that the two were friends who were "hanging out" and "talking about life," and that he took his shirt off because he was hot, according to the report.

According to the Tribune, the teen later told police that that he and Provenzano met on Grinder, a gay dating app, and the pair had sexual contact in the car.

No charges were filed, as 17 is the legal age of consent in Illinois.

Hultgren has earned a "zero" on Human Rights Campaign's Congressional Scorecard, signifying a lack of support for LGBT rights. The Republican lawmaker opposes same-sex marriage.
