With chocolate cream and cherries dripping off catchers, pitchers and the walls, the pie throwing fundraiser at Sidetrack Saturday was a big winner for Equality Illinois (EQIL).
26 "catchers", including State Representatives Sara Feigenholtz (D-IL 12th) and Greg Harris (D-IL 13th), were put on the auction block in front of a packed room in Sidetrack Saturday afternoon. Winning bidders got the honor of "pitching" the pie.
Asked early in the afternoon on Saturday by ChicagoPride.com, Art Johnston, Sidetrack owner and EQIL director/activist, said "we hope to raise $8,000 to $10,000 this afternoon and it appears we are well on the way to that goal." Bids for some of the celebrity volunteers exceeded $1,500.
Nearly $20,000 was raised Saturday, according to sources, with proceeds to benefit Equality Illinois' efforts to secure, protect and defend equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Illinois.
Among the well known Boystown figures were City of Chicago Commission on Human Relations' Advisory Council on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues Director Bill Greaves, Charlie's general manager Danny Sullivan, Hydrate owner Mark Lieberson, Windy City Times publisher Tracy Baim, Grab Magazine publisher Stacy Bridges, Nightspots Editor Kirk Williamson and ChicagoPride.com's own Bill Prichard.
Exact details on the fund raiser amounts will be published on Wednesday by EQIL.
