6th Annual Bar AIDS this Thursday

Wed. August 26, 2009 12:00 AM by Plez

Chicago, IL - On Thursday, August 27, 2009, one of the signature fundraising events of the summer takes place throughout the city: the interesting and innovative 6th Annual Bar AIDS. Started here in Chicago in 2004 and modeled after the very successful Dining Out for Life program, Bar AIDS is a fun and festive philanthropic evening wherein participating bars will donate a portion of the night's proceeds to AIDSCare, a 17-year-old Chicago non-profit organization. While last year's event raised more than $30,000, it is hoped that this year's re-focused efforts and increased number of participating bars will lead to even greater results in 2009.

Billed as "an intoxicating mix of one part night-on-the-town, two parts fundraiser, and a dash of HIV/AIDS awareness," this year's Bar AIDS will have participating venues from all over the city, from the South Loop to Uptown, from Wicker Park to Andersonville, and from River North to Lakeview. Each bar, in order to make the fundraiser as grand and appealing as possible, will create a unique one-of-a kind themed party on the night of Bar AIDS. These parties are sure to excite the bars' regular patrons as well as attract new guests through their doors.

An additional aspect of the fundraiser will be two raffles for which those attending Bar AIDS festivities can purchase tickets. In addition to a variety of prizes being given away at each Participating Bar, there will be a grand prize raffle to include a vacation package and free airfare.

An integral part of the success of Bar AIDS is the use of Bar Ambassadors. In addition to representing AIDSCare on the night of Bar AIDS at one of the Participating Bars, a Bar Ambassador will greet guests and patrons, and sell raffle tickets. Before that night, Ambassadors will receive training and support to ensure an evening that is safe, fun, and successful as well as be expected to invite friends, coworkers and family to their assigned bar.
