Washington, D.C. - President Barack Obama will host his eighth and final White House Pride reception on Thursday, June 9.

According to the Washington Blade, invitations for the event were sent out late Thursday.

The president and first lady Michelle Obama have delivered remarks at each of the seven annual events.

At last year's event, Obama said that he was closely watching the Supreme Court for a decision that could lead to nationwide marriage equality. The high court later did find that gay and lesbian couples have a constitutional right to marry.

"When I became president, same-sex marriage was legal in only two states," Obama told the crowd. "Today, it's legal in 37 states and the District of Columbia. A decade ago, politicians ran against LGBT rights. Today, they're running towards them. Because they've learned what the rest of the country knows: That marriage equality is about our civil rights, and our firm belief that every citizen should be treated equally under the law."
