Charming cottages situated on Lake Superior offer secluded getaway

With spring finally arriving, it's the ideal time of year to start thinking about a getaway. There are so many fantastic places within driving distance from Chicago, including the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, which is fast becoming a destination of choice for those looking to escape from the big city.

Situated between the historic towns of Marquette and Munising - and just six hours north of Chicago - are three vintage cottages situated on Lake Superior in Shelter Bay. Each cottage - built as early as the 1920's - is decorated and curated by Shelter Bay Getaways owner Keith Middleditch.

"I've loved this place for so long, I just had to share it," said Middleditch, who has been traveling to the area for 49 years. "Overall, it's a fantastic place to get away alone or with a loved one."

Built on Shelter Bay, a natural harbor in Hiawatha National Forest and close to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Grand Island State Park and Seneg Wildlife Refuge, all three of these private three-bedroom cottages share breath-taking views of Lake Superior and Autrain island, each with their own unique personality and updated amenities.

Located on 600-feet of shore line, Camp Corina affords panoramic views of the lake and all the splendors of nature. This beautiful cabin with it's funky 60's vibe is secluded at the end of a dirt road.

"Bring a group of friends and have a great time," said Middleditch.

Next, take a short walk across a small foot bridge to find the Beach House, which is nestled on a private peninsula between Lake Superior and a gentle stream. The property with it's 375-feet of lake front is virtually surrounded by water and perfect for swimming.

"You can film a movie here," Middleditch said of the picturesque Beach House views.

The third property, located just 10-feet away from the shore line, is the classic 1920's log home.

Each cottage is outfitted with WiFi, a Smart TV, heat and a full amenity kitchen.

Shelter Bay Getaways are available 7months a year. The area offers, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, boating, swimming and more. The properties are kid and pet friendly with no additional charge for a pet.
