Chicago, IL -
HEY EVERYONE! Did you all hear the news? Mz. Kii Kii is going to be in a movie! It's going to be about me. Appropriately called "Me, The Movie" It's going to be written, choreographed, produced and directed by me and starring me. I'm going to be writing all the musical scores for it from my own studio called ME productions! The movie premier party will be a tea dance called the "Me Tea" held at my new hotel called the ME Astoria and will be DJed by Me! Because it's all about me…. Isn't that fierce? WHATEVER!
Starting off, I was wondering if anyone happened to notice how shitty the Chicago Police were to both parade and bar patrons over Gay Pride weekend? Despite an official press release from the CPD stating otherwise, I personally saw several bars shut down while the Gestapo checked liquor licenses and decided to enforce minute ordinances in an attempt to hinder business. I wonder when the South Side "I'm a big drunken mess" St. Patty's day parade stumbles down 111th St. if the police will do the same to the taverns along that strip?
I would like to congratulate Greg Drescher on a job well done at Excalibur over Gay Pride weekend. He kept a solid crowd moving all night along with Barry Harris. So, what's up with Soundbar? Defunct? Nope. Soundbar recently bought the Management Company that owns Zentra Nightclub apparently. What exactly this means for SB, or it's pending court case has yet to be seen. Zentra is planning to host a Monday night House event with Maurice Joshua at the turntables. It will be interesting to see how this turns out since the Boom Boom Room at Red Dog is still running as strong as ever on Mondays. Rumors on Halsted St. of a Sunday afternoon event about to get under way. I won't mention any names (Felt) but they say it could happen by the end of summer…Buzz on the strip is that Sugar wants to host a Sunday night event for the boys too. So much to do…..So little time!
Barbara Tucker was in town back on June 28th at The District. It was a cute time, but could have been better attended. Back on the 4th of July Frankie Knuckles worked the House of Blues into a heavenly bliss as he turned out his annual excellence. Hostesses J.J., Cad'lac DeVille, and Sal worked the audience properly while Michelle Weeks hit us with a set of pipes that prove she isn't just a studio voice. Tom Stefan (Superchumbo) let the kids have it on July 5th at Vision. The set was solid and the kids really were digging it. Also on the 5th at the House of Blues were John Digweed, BT, and the Crystal Method. It was very Q101 with everyone from ravers to club kidz. Halsted St. welcomes John Curly to Sundays at Hydrate where he apparently has been letting the boys have it! Lastly, we can all breath a collective sigh of relief that Jim Lewis is back doing what he does best; slamming us up and down with the best Friday night event around! If you all missed the memo, I'll school ya! Jim is doing Fridays at Hydrate under the name "Manhole: Reloaded". Always fierce, Jim has never sounded better in his new home. Well kids, time to run……..don't forget to pick up your tickets for ME, The Movie……because it's all about me. NOT!
