New Boystown bars Whiskey Trust, Manhole announce closure

The new bars and nightclub will close just months after LKH Management took over in an attempt to revitalize Spin’s struggling replacements.

Chicago, IL - Boystown's two newest bars Whiskey Trust and Manhole are closing Friday less than one year after opening, LKH Management told ChicagoPride.com.

LKH, which also manages North Halsted hotspots Hydrate, Replay, Elixir and Halsted's Bar & Grill, assumed management of the struggling new concepts at the end of August 2014.

However, now LKH Management President Mark Liberson says situations beyond his control are forcing them to shutter.

"The owner of the business instructed us to close Whiskey Trust and Manhole until such matters are resolved, and we are complying with his request," Liberson said.

Whiskey Trust, located at the 3206 N. Halsted St., was formerly the south half of Spin Nightclub. It's northern half opened as Chloe's Nightclub, but was rebranded to the legendary Boystown bar Manhole shortly following LKH's new management position.

But just because the bars are shuttering doesn't mean fans of the nightclub will be left out in the cold. Whiskey Trust and Manhole's manager AK Miller says they'll assume a new home until the details are worked out.

"Manhole's popular parties will return to Hydrate," Miller said. "Hopefully we ill be able to return to this space soon or find an appropriate venue for Manhole to reopen on a full-time basis in the near future."

As for the employees of the two closing clubs, LKH's managing partner Sean Kotwa says they're working to assess new positions in the LKH family.

"As the former management team for Whiskey Trust, we remain concerned for the staff of Whiskey Trust and Manhole, and regret that this is happening during the holiday season," he said. "We are reviewing the staffing at our other locations to see if opportunities exist to retain members of the former staff."
