Chicago, IL -
It's time for a lecture. With the warming of the weather in Chicago comes the warming and heating up of many a temper in the land of Club. Several establishments have had fights break out within their confines in the past month. LIFE IS NOT A WHITE SOX GAME! Please keep in mind that we are out at these establishments to enjoy ourselves and relax. Not everyone rubs us the right way, but a little tact goes a long way. Behavior of this kind can conceivably lead to us having NO establishments in which to kick back and enjoy ourselves. Don't make Kii Kii upset: It causes me stress lines.
Remember to properly Hydrate! By the time this hits the streets we will hopefully have Hydrate banging Halsted St. into the 21st Century of clubbing. With Psycho-Bitch returning to Halsted St. on Wednesdays, Teri Bristol on Thursdays and Ralphi "La Brinca" Rosario on Saturdays, we better be well rested for the summer fun ahead.
OK, so the party of the month hands down was Deep Dish/Dimitri from Paris at Transit back on June 12th. The club was packed to the gills with a fun combo of str8, gay, boys, gals and all those in between. The DD duo threw down and had the kids bumpin' and jumpin'. If you haven't been…..check out Pete Crow at Circuit for his weekly Lights Out party. It's picking up steam and Peter throws down! Did anyone know that The Scumfrog was in town at Spundae back on June 14th? I must have missed the memo. Like Phoenix from the ashes: Cherry Red did NOT hit the floor as I reported here last time. In fact, Luis M and Jim Lewis played a ferocious Twisted Tea Dance there on June 22nd. It's a really cute space and we like it when the Luis/Lewis team tickles the turntables.
A lot of stuff upcoming for the vampires of Sodom: The annual "haven't lived until you've experienced the greatness that is" Frankie Knuckles DECADE OF EXCELLENCE Party with Michelle Weeks is at the House of Blues on July 4th. J.J. and Cadillac DeVille will be in full effect as hostesses. Get there early, because there is always a line for this one. Reunion on Lake St. will be hosting House diva Rochelle Flemming on July 5th. For you young-uns not in the know, she sang the classic "Dr. Love". E-smoove hits the wheels of steel on June 28th at The District on Lake St. Scheduled to give vocal bliss are Barbara Tucker and Chicago's own Dajae. Chicago Fetish (don't you love a good fetish?) will be hosting a series of summer parties at NEO on Clark St. over the summer. Log onto www.Chicago-fetish.com for more.
IN addition to the aforementioned Ralphi appearance on the 28th at Hydrate, Abel will be in town at Circuit that night too. June 28th also brings us Pride Fest at Halsted and Waveland with several performers and local DJ's throwing down. Pride Sunday gives us the Heart's Foundation pride party at Excalibur with DJ's Barry Harris & Greg Drescher.
And lastly, for those into the concert scene, Tori Amos plays her "Lotta Pianos" tour through Chicago's Auditorium Theater on August 10th. Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode takes his Paper Monster tour through the Aragon on August 1st, and Tracey Chapman kicks off her Let It Rain tour with a swing through the Chicago Theater on July 6th. Remember kids; don't go buying condos next to nightclubs. It's just plain stupid. Taa Taa til' next time!
