Chicago, IL -
The first annual Pride 5K Run/Walk Race takes place at 7:30 p.m. on June 26.
Event organizer Michelle Krage says that this event is about being together as one, and bringing someone with you as your "plus one."
"The idea of who your plus one is about not coming alone and feeling left out but bringing someone," Krage told ChicagoPride.com. "The party atmosphere of Pride 5K represents the accomplishment with how equality and celebration make up gay pride and how far it has come as a community."
Registration for this race will include items such as a gift bag, a $10 drink voucher for alcohol and a t-shirt that Krage encourages to wear all throughout Pride Weekend.
Following the race, a post-race party, which is open to runners and supporters, will take place at Diversey Harbor and which will feature live music from Adam LeBlanc from local band Sixteen Candles. The party atmosphere will last at the harbor until 10 p.m and move to the patio at D.S. Tequila at 3352 N. Halsted, where the celebration atmosphere extends.
"The Pride 5K is focused on FUN - and running with your friends for a good cause," says fellow event organizer Aaron Brost. "The LGBTQ community has a lot to celebrate, especially with Illinois gaining full marriage equality this year."
The race is set up for participants to take part in the race wearing their pride colors, while the party is aimed towards providing a VIP atmosphere for people to feel welcome and have fun.
"While Thursday night's walk is certainly beneficiary, we want people to be there to cheer friends and then have fun together," Krage said. "It's all about the aspect of people coming together to walk and then enjoy themselves at the party."
