Champaign, IL - The Lambda Literary Foundation announced today the finalists for the 15th Annual Lambda Literary Awards for excellence in gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) literature. The winners will be announced at a gala event in Los Angeles at the historic Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles on Thursday, May 29, 2003.

Alyson Publications, based in Los Angeles, boasts the most nominees with twelve nods in seven different categories. St. Martin's Press comes out with four finalists. San Francisco's Cleis Press grabs three finalists including two in the Erotica category.

This year's finalists, chosen from over 350 nominated titles, reflect the continuing variety and vitality of GLBT book publishing. The full range of the publishing industry - large mainstream publishing houses, small presses, gay and lesbian/feminist presses and university presses - appear in the list.

Over seventy judges, representing a broad cross-section of the gay and lesbian literary world, will select a single book in each category to win the prestigious Lammy Award, considered to be the highest accolade for a book from the GLBT community.

The Lambda Literary Foundation is the only national nonprofit organization which is dedicated to the recognition, promotion and publication of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered writing. The Foundation publishes the Lambda Book Report, a monthly GLBT book review magazine, and The James White Review, a gay men's literary quarterly. Additionally, it organizes the annual Lambda Literary Awards and an annual writers conference, the Lambda Literary Festival. The Lambda Literary Foundation is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
