Annual event benefits AIDS Foundation of Chicago, Houston hip hop prodigy J Xavier to perform at event

Chicago, IL - Individuals and teams are encouraged to sign up now—and start gathering pledges—for AIDS Run & Walk Chicago, one of the city's most high-profile annual events that raises money to combat HIV/AIDS.
The run & walk will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, at Columbus and Balbo in Grant Park. Proceeds benefit the grant-making program of the AIDS Foundation of Chicago.

To facilitate the money-raising process, individuals and teams can also create personal fundraising pages at the event's website, www.aidsrunwalk.org, where friends, family and co-workers can make pledges.

Among the musical entertainment before the run & walk start will be Houston-based hip hop artist J Xavier who, at 14, recently released his debut album, "Young Prince of Tha South." The musical prodigy has also been very active in efforts to raise HIV/AIDS awareness among youth and, for AIDS Run & Walk Chicago, has been working with AFC to encourage the participation of teams from local high schools.

In addition to a 5K run and a 5K walk, the event will also feature a "Fitness & Healthy Lifestyle Village," sponsored by the Illinois Department of Public Health. The Village will feature product samplings, service demonstrations and information about HIV/AIDS-related services and volunteer opportunities with local AIDS service providers and other organizations.

There will also be other pre-event, course route and post-event musical entertainment.

Since it was established in 2001, AIDS Run & Walk Chicago has netted more than $1 million to battle the epidemic.

Registration cost is $20 in advance; $25 on-site. Registration materials and more information can be obtained by visiting www.aidsrunwalk.org or calling 312.334.0936.
