Advertisers Drop from Ann Coulter’s Website on Heels of Homophobic Slur

On the heels of the homophobic slur heard round the world, at least three major companies have pulled their advertising from right-wing commentator Ann Coulter's Web site, according to CNN.com.

The self-proclaimed pot-stirrer made headlines last week when she referred to presidential hopeful John Edwards as a "faggot" at a speaking engagement before fellow conservatives.

Edwards, a number of Republicans including Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney and virtually every political organization in the country have condemned Coulter's comments, and now, her advertisers are dropping like flies.

Verizon, Sallie Mae and Georgia-based NetBank have each pulled advertising from her site, going so far as to say they didn't even know their respective companies were advertising on AnnCoulter.com.

They found out, according to FOX News, when a writer for liberal blog DailyKos.com posted contact information for dozens of companies with ads on Coulter's site after the commentator made her remarks Friday.

"One of the best ways to communicate one's distaste for Coulter's repeated incidents of hate speech is to respectfully but firmly let her advertisers know you are deeply troubled by their indirect support of bigotry through their advertising on Coulter's Web site," the blogger VolvoDrivingLiberal wrote on DailyKos.com on Sunday, CNN reported.

All three companies said it is not their policy to advertise on political Web sites of any kind.

"Per our policy, the networked Web site ad purchases are supposed to be stripped of certain kinds of Web sites," a Verizon spokesperson told CNN. "This one could be considered an extreme political Web site, should be off the list, and now it is off the list."

A Sallie Mae spokesperson said the company is planning to pull ads from other political and religious Web sites as well.

According to spokesperson for NetBank, Coulter's site "is not the kind of site we want to be on."
