Naperville Will Be Base For Peter LaBarbera's "Americans for Truth"

Chicago, IL - The lllinois Family Institute's Peter LaBarbera has announced that he's stepping down as Executive Director of the regional ultra-conservative organization so that he can launch his new, national anti-gay organization Americans For Truth.

LaBarbera, 44, who joined IFI in September 2003, has been a long-time antagonist to Chicago’s gay and lesbian community. LaBarbera says his new organization needs his full attention in "confronting the homosexual activist agenda."

Americans for Truth, will be based in Naperville, Illinois a suburb of Chicago.

With LaBarbera’s departure, the Illinois Family Institute (IFI) has announced David E. Smith as its new Executive Director.

Smith, 37, has served as IFI’s Senior Policy Analyst at the Institute since March 2004, and lead the push for the unsuccessful statewide marriage protection referendum. Illinois elections officials recently voted to keep the IFI-backed referendum off the November ballot citing the lack of valid signatures.

Smith also gained notoriety after filing over 70 FCC complaints since 1999 against Chicago shock-jock Eric "Mancow" Muller. Of the 70 complaints a majority were dismissed by the FCC; however, a few resulted in fines of $300,000 against Mancow and Communications, the parent company of WKQX-FM 101.1.

"For the past two years, I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Peter LaBarbera. I will miss him and the passion he brought each and every day to the office. Yet I fully understand his desire to counter the powerful and well-funded homosexual lobby," Smith said in a release issued by the Illinois Family Institute.
