The Chicago Diner celebrates three decades of veggie dining

Chicago may have been the ‘hog butcher to the world', but that didn't deter a pair of optimistic vegetarians from opening a ground-breaking meat-free restaurant in 1983. Thirty years and a new second location later, ‘the little diner that could' shares the love and the might of meat-free dining with The Second City.
The Chicago Diner marks the anniversary times two, with 30 days of giveaways at both the original Halsted Street location and the new Logan Square spot.
From March 4 to April 2, stop in to win all month long. Daily prizes include free desserts & shakes, cookbooks, t-shirts and more. A Grand Prize drawing on April 3 features a big screen TV, bicycle, cooking appliances, an iPad, and gift cards.
The Diner also commemorates the occasion by bringing back some classic menu items including the Philly Stæk & Dagwood Hoagie.
On the exact anniversary date (Tuesday, April 2), The Diner celebrates with complimentary cupcakes all day at both locations.
