Stephanie Fryns on Thursday adopted a dog abandoned by his previous owner because he claimed the dog is gay. Fryns named the dog Elton.
The pitbull-type hound was being held in a rabies control shelter in Jackson, Tennessee.
Elton's previous owner told shelter representatives that he assumed the dog is gay after he noticed him "hunched over" another male dog.
A post on the Facebook page
Jackson TN Euthanasia sought a new home for the pooch.
"Don't let this gorgeous dog die bc his owner is ignorant of normal dog behavior! He is in kennel 10L and he WILL be put down tomorrow bc there is no room at the inn!" the post stated.
On the former owner's assertion that the dog is gay, the post's author wrote: "Even if that weren't the most asinine thing I've ever heard, it's still discrimination."
Fryns, a veterinary tech and dog lover, rescued Elton.
Elton "was pretty friendly so far. He's pretty scared of everything, which is understandable. But he loved the car ride," she told
