Boy, 14, charged with murder of Chicago gay youth

Chicago, IL - A 14-year-old boy is accused of fatally shooting an 18-year-old gay youth earlier this month outside of a Chicago high school.

Terrance Wright, a young gay man who recently transferred schools to avoid being bullied, was killed Oct. 19 during an attempted robbery as he left Banner Academy South in Chicago's Jeffery Manor neighborhood.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the 14-year-old boy appeared in Juvenile Court Monday after being charged as a juvenile with murder for the fatal shooting. He is scheduled to appear again on Nov. 13.

Wright, who lived in the 5000 block of South Carpenter Street, was a senior at Banner Academy where he transfered last year after being picked on at his previous high school.

"He had made a big turnaround from the old school to this one," Wright's aunt, Kathy Jackson, told the Tribune. "And now this happened."

Wright would have had his 19th birthday on Oct. 28.
