Flesh Hungry Dog’s monthly queer, alternative, rock 'n' roll cabaret

Chicago, IL - Marking its half-year point, The Flesh Hungry Dog Show features a return to the stage of its namesake band. After a four-month hiatus, Flesh Hungry Dog reemerges with a new line-up -- except for front man and founder Gary Airedale, who hosts the Friday, Sept. 16, event.

In addition to the indefinable, outrageous and always fun title band, the show features perennial Chicago queer rockers Three Dollar Bill and Barely Standing, voted best band in Chicago.

The Flesh Hungry Dog Show starts at 9 p.m. at Jackhammer (773-743-5772), 6406 N. Clarks St. in Chicago. It was featured in the “Don’t Miss” section of the July 14 issue of Time Out Chicago magazine, which called it “possibly the most diverse scene in the city.”

Barely Standing
Barely Standing is an award winning 5 piece hard rock band with the classic sound of Sabbath, Metallica and Pantera plus a hint of the modern: Audioslave, Evanescence & Incubus-all served with a leather & chrome gender twist. Amazing vocals & lead guitar, massive double-kick drums and bass--delivered with the power to shake the foundation.

Barely Standing was formed five years ago in the summer of 2000 by band leader Stevie Conlon and Terri Terri Dempsey and was voted Chicago area's "Best Rock Band" in 2002, "Best Alternative Rock Band" in 2005 and took 2nd place for "Best Heavy Rock Band" in 2004 and 2005 in Chicago’s Suburban NiteLife Magazine reader's polls. The band released its self produced, self-titled first original CD in 2003. Barely Standing is currently writing and arranging material for its next CD and adding originals to its live show. Barely Standing plays 3 or 4 times a month at clubs throughout Chicago and surrounding areas.

Flesh Hungry Dog
With songs that cover a spectrum of styles, from funk to punk to soulful balladry, Flesh Hungry Dog has been entertaining audiences with its unique vision of life in the sometimes-but-not-always queer fast lane. The band composed the theme for the 2003 film "Bubblegum Memories" and in 2004 released its first collection "Flesh Hungry Dog." Bearing the torch that started with David Bowie and The New York Dolls, the newly incarnated Flesh Hungry Dog lineup includes members who are transgender, straight, gay and African American, as well as white boys from the burbs. Members ages range from 21-51. Flesh Hungry Dog is the embodiment of diversity, yet when they meet on the stage, the message is clear: rock and roll is for everyone with a heartbeat. Flesh Hungry Dog will make yours beat a little faster. This band just might make history.

Three Dollar Bill
Ass-kickers and free thinkers, 3DB will set you free! Charming and subversive without breaking a sweat, this Chicago rock band is a DIY favorite. Defining post-punk attitudes with stinging guitars, catchy melodies and an irresistibly pounding rhythm section, THREE DOLLAR BILL hooks you with songs full of pleading desire, lust and rage. The band is releasing its latest CD "Parody of Pleasure" in October. Look for these tuff and sexy rockers in the upcoming Hollywood film "Hellbent". This is the nü-grunge revolution!

Cover Charge is $8. Jackhammer is a 21+ venue.
