Milwaukee-based DJ John Murges might have guessed early on that he’d eventually become a DJ. It began in the early 1980s when he’d play records for his oldest sister in his bedroom at the family home in suburban Chicago.
John may have lived in Suburbia; but thanks to his dad, he grew up in the city. Fortunately for John, his family owned a grocery store in downtown Chicago and that put him smack dab in the middle of Chicago’s nightlife. As soon as he looked old enough, John began to explore the bars and clubs, where he was exposed to the music that he would eventually build his career on.
In the mid-1990s, Murges moved to Milwaukee where he began his DJ career. Initially, he played at parties organized by friends. As time passed his name became more recognized and now he’s one of Milwaukee’s best-known and most popular DJs.
John has held residencies at some of Milwaukee’s largest clubs as well as numerous bars. He occasionally plays in Cincinnati, and has, for the past five years, played at one of Chicago’s largest Halloween parties. John currently holds a weekly residency at Moct and a monthly residency at Art Bar, both in Milwaukee. Most importantly, he is one of the founders and resident DJs at PUMP!, Milwaukee’s largest Sunday night party.
John’s preferred musical genres are all across the board. When playing a dance venue, John primarily spins vocal house, progressive, and trance, but always packs a few surprises.
