Chicago, IL -
After a successful first season, Queer Comedy at Zanies returns Tuesday, January 24th with it's new time of 7:30pm.
"In less than a year we moved from a late-night comedy show on a weeknight to a prime-time slot so I know that there is a great response from what we're doing," show producer and stand-up comic Adam Guerino told ChicagoPride.com.
Season two of Queer Comedy, which is produced by Guerino's company OutLoud Chicago, is off to a strong start with headliner Chip Pope (Comedy Central's Premium Blend, Beavis and Butthead, The Rosie Show
) in the season two opener.
Guerino said one of the missions of OutLoud Chicago is to cross the boundaries between gay and straight, to find mainstream venues and install queer entertainment so everyone feels welcome.
"Zanies has been amazingly supportive of the show and the queer community through the show," he said.
Guerino will host comedians Meredith Kachel (Side Mullet Nation, Collegehumor.com) and Matteo Lane (Laugh Track at Sidetrack
) along with Pope as headliner.
Pope's stand-up comedy has been featured live across the nation as well as on NBC's Late Friday
and Comedy Central's Premium Blend
. He has appeared in the films Clockstoppers
and opposite Al Pacino in Simone
. He has written, produced and starred in TV pilots for HBO, ABC, FOX, Comedy Central and NBC. He has written for Beavis and Butthead
and is currently working on The Rosie Show
"All these comedians want to stand out and tell unique stories, not race for the lowest common denominator," said Guerino. "The title queer comedy may seem pointed but it's an intentional umbrella that includes gay, lesbian and straight comedians and audience members."
