Chicago, IL - Chicago Cubs President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein announced today that manager Mike Quade will not be returning for the 2012 season.

Quade took over as field manager for the Cubs late in 2010 and presided over a disappointing 2011 finishing the season below the .500 mark.

In a statement released by the Cubs this afternoon, Epstein said: "When I joined the Cubs last week, I knew that Mike had a reputation as an outstanding baseball guy, as a tireless worker, and as a first-rate human being. After spending some time with him this past week, it became apparent to me that Mike's reputation is well deserved. His passion, knowledge of the game, commitment, and integrity stood out immediately."

In June 2011, a video contribution by the Cubs to the "It Gets Better Project" featured Quade, along with Cubs first base coach Bob Dernier, pitcher Ryan Dempster, outfield Marlon Byrd, infielder Darwin Barney and owner Laura Ricketts. Ricketts is the first openly gay Major League Baseball owner.
