Gay recording artist celebrates "A-List" video release in NYC

In preparation of his video-release party, Brian Kent is distributing his most recently updated professional bio via e-mail. Of its receipt, he assures, "It takes a minute to get into your box."

Based out of New York by way of Vegas from Los Angeles, Kent's musical accreditation originates on the UK dance charts. However in the states, his claim to gay fame bullet-points opening for the likes of Kristine W and Taylor Dayne on his resume, as well as his preforming at popular Pride events a la Chicago's Market Days and International Mr. Leather Weekend. His Out Music Award-winning original tracks and covers have enjoyed heavy rotation on radio and TV as well as appearing on gay-popular film soundtracks like 2008's Kiss the Bride and Violet Tendencies in 2010. Longstanding fans may recall seeing all of Kent in the ensemble of the original L.A. production of "Naked Boys Singing."

Yet in kind with kicking it solo, Kent's most recent focus has been on music-"single projects," like the production and release of "Whatcha [sic] doing to me" earlier this year. The song took the number-one spot on Sirius Satellite radio shortly after hitting its airwaves. "Whatcha's" follow up is Kent's "Su Su Su Superstar." When asked if the track title has too many "su-s" in its prefix, Kent responds with a drawn out and high-pitched inflected, "No!"

"I love it," he says. "It makes it unique."

Kent describes "Su Su Su Superstar" as a song of personal empowerment. "It's about living up to your own expectations and not what people want you to be," he explains. "At the end of the day, it's about being your own kind of superstar—that fabulousness that comes from within." The track's music video, directed by Logo A List cast member Mike Ruiz (the production of which will find Kent appearing on an upcoming episode of A List) follows suit. According to Kent's account, it depicts his "personal journey from childhood to boyhood."

The video-launch party takes place at New York's Industry Bar, Wednesday July 20, 2011. The evening will mark the video's premiere screening as well as feature a special surprise performance by someone Kent has "known and loved for a while." Following party's close, Kent's attentions will fall on completing the production of his sophomore album, which he anticipates releasing at the end of the year.
