New York City -
Openly gay Grammy Nominated recording artist B. SLADE, formally known as TONEX, prepares to release the EP, "DIESEL" on Tuesday, July 19, 2011, available via bslade.bandcamp.com. The "DIESEL" EP is led by the vocal-driven single "I.R.S.", written by B. SLADE and produced by Curtis Sauce Wilson (Brandy, Something for The People).
On July 16, 2011, B. SLADE takes over San Diego Repertory Theatre (San Diego REP) as the lead role in "The Who's TOMMY", the world's first rock opera re-imagined for the 21st century. "The Who's TOMMY" is directed by Sam Woodhouse, San Diego REP co-founder and artistic director and will run from July 16th-August 14, 2011.
"DIESEL is dedicated to the forerunners and strong black men in the civil rights entertainment and hip hop culture. Diesel runs in our blood," mentions B. Slade. "It's about the tenacity to continue and press through oppositions even when you want to give up and say you're going to give, there's something in you that won't let you and that is your DIESEL. No matter what race or orientation you might be, don't ever lose your Diesel, this is what the album is all about," he adds.
B. SLADE released several hundred songs on 24 albums over a span of 14 years, while producing several others for both gospel and secular artists. He has won six Stellar Awards, a GMA Award, and received 2 Grammy nominations: one for Best Soul Gospel Album for his 2004 gold album, Out The Box and another in 2009 for Best Urban/Soul Alternative Performance for his single, "Blend," from his 2009 mainstream album, Unspoken.
