Four-Day Shopping Adventure Benefits DIFFA Chicago and Howard Brown

Chicago, IL - DIFFA/Chicago (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS) is combining efforts with Howard Brown Health Center to present the Design Daze + 2004 Designers’ Garage Sale Thursday, July 8 through Sunday, July 11, 2004 at Architectural Artifacts, Inc., 4325 N. Ravenswood in Chicago. This four-day discount-shopping extravaganza will feature an eclectic array of fine home furnishings, top designer clothing, unique collectibles, decorative accessories and fine arts from the world’s leading designers and manufacturers at a fraction of retail cost – with daily markdowns. All proceeds benefit DIFFA/Chicago and Howard Brown Health Center, the Midwest’s largest provider of healthcare services to the LGBT community.

The Design Daze + 2004 Designers’ Garage Sale schedule is as follows:

Thursday, July 8: VIP RECEPTION 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
For $75.00, VIP guests have the first option to purchase the eclectic variety of goods. The VIP reception also includes music, wine, food and delectable tastings.
VIP Reception tickets must be purchased in advance.

General Admission:
Friday, July 9: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Saturday, July 10: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Sunday, July 10: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

General admission is $10.00. Tickets are available at the door.

The goal of the Design Daze + 2004 Designers’ Garage Sale is to help in the fight against HIV/AIDS by supporting those involved in the frontline battles with the disease. In addition to supporting the work of one of this event’s direct beneficiaries – Howard Brown Health Center, dollars will also be raised in support of the Excellence In Care grant-making programs of DIFFA/Chicago. These grants are awarded to other Chicago organizations that support the fight against HIV/AIDS.

DIFFA/Chicago is one of 15 chapters nationwide of The Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA) established in 1984. The 15 chapters have distributed over $31 million to community-based organizations providing direct service, preventive education and outreach to people who are HIV positive, living with AIDS or at-risk of infection. In addition DIFFA granting helps feed, provide healthcare, defend rights and provide care for people at the end of life. In Chicago, our funding has focused on those agencies that demonstrate extraordinary effectiveness in achieving their chosen missions in the HIV/AIDS arena.

DIFFA/Chicago provides Excellence in Care Awards to Chicago-area service providers. Grants committee members review each agency applying for funding through site visits and interviews with the organizations' staff. DIFFA/Chicago provides funding for advocacy, education, health and clinical services, meals, nutrition, housing, support and counseling.

Howard Brown Health Center is the premier healthcare organization in the Midwest specializing in the unique medical and psychosocial needs for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Howard Brown has served thousands of people through its HIV/AIDS services, comprehensive medical services, individual and group counseling, research, youth services and prevention and case management.
