IML 2004, Memorial Day in Chicago

Chicago, IL - Jason Hendrix, Mr. D.C. Eagle, has been named International Mr. Leather 2004, winning over a field of 57 contestants from 6 countries, including Canada, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States. He is sponsored by The D.C. Eagle, Washington, D.C. Jason Hendrix works as Director of Administration and Finance for The National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors – a career dedicated to reducing the incidence of HIV infection. He has volunteered and supported Scarlet’s Bake Sale, Eagle Wings and Art for Life – all in Washington, D.C. He is dedicated to supporting causes that promote the leather lifestyle. The 26th annual International Mr. Leather Contest was held Sunday, May 30 at The Congress Theater, 2135 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago.

As the International Mr. Leather 2004 titleholder, Jason Hendrix will represent IML and the Leather Community over the next year. He also receives a prize package that includes $5,000 in airline travel certificates as well as donations from businesses and organizations supporting the leather community.


Remi Alexandre Collette, Mr. Leatherman Toronto 2004, was named 1st runner up. He is sponsored by Mr. Leatherman Toronto Competition, Inc., Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Thomas Schoch, Mr. Fetish Switzerland 2004, was named 2nd runner up. He is sponsored by Club Rage GMBH of Sclieren/Mininistry of Kink of Zurich, Switzerland.

Contestants are judged on a variety of criteria, including community involvement, speech, presentation and overall presence. The 2004 IML Judges included: IML 2003 John Pendal (London, UK), David Allen (Abbotsford, Australia), Andy Anderson (Toronto, Canada), Mary Elizabeth Boyd (Arlington, VA), George Hester (New Orleans, LA), Dan Hughes (San Jose, CA), Randie Smith (Baltimore, MD), John Weis (New York, NY) and George Wong (Montebello, CA). The 2004 IML Tally Masters included: Mel Austin (Chicago, IL) and Jeff Wirsig (Chicago, IL).

The winner of the 12th annual International Mr. Bootblack Competition is Alan Tunstall, winning over a pool of 8 contestants. Alan Tunstall is sponsored by The Barracks Bar of Cathedral City, CA and the Avatar Club of Los Angeles, CA.

The 26th annual International Mr. Leather Contest was emceed by Tom Stice. The Bootlickers provided musical entertainment at this year’s contest.

More than 10,000 leather folk attended International Mr. Leather Contest 2004. The competition was followed by Salute! (post contest celebration) at the Hyatt Regency Chicago and the annual IML Victory Celebration Party at Chicago’s House of Blues. The high-energy Black and Blue Ball capped-off the IML weekend on Monday, May 31st at Excalibur, 632 N. Dearborn St. in Chicago.

The 27th Annual International Mr. Leather Weekend will be held May 26 – 30, 2005 (Memorial Day Weekend). The Hyatt Regency Chicago, 151 E. Wacker Drive, is the official host hotel of IML 2005.
