Country singer Chely Wright, who served as the Grand Marshal for Chicago's annual Pride Parade last summer, is engaged.
Wright and fiancee Lauren Blitzer, an activist for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, plan to get married in Connecticut in August.
"They met through their youth advocacy work, and say that their passion for Scrabble holds them together," Wright's representative told People magazine on Wednesday.
The 40-year-old surprised fans by coming out lesbian last year. She is the first country star to state publicly that she is gay.
"The freedom of being out and open about who I am allowed me to find and fall in love with Lauren," Wright tells People, "the most amazing woman I've ever known."
Since coming out, Wright has shared her story and the painful process of growing up in a small Kansas town knowing she is gay. At one point her journey led her to the point of contemplating suicide.
Last summer Wright released her memoir, "Like Me" that describes her painful coming out process, among other subjects.
