AIDS Run & Walk Chicago set for Saturday, October 2

Chicago, IL - AIDS Run & Walk Chicago, one of the city's most high-profile annual fundraisers to combat HIV/AIDS, takes place on Saturday, October 2, at Columbus and Balbo in Grant Park. Proceeds benefit the AIDS Foundation of Chicago and more than 70 local AIDS organizations.

More than 7,000 people are expected to participate. This includes a large contingent of corporate teams as well as those formed by local high schools and colleges.

In addition a 5K run and 5K walk, new this year is a 10K run. The runs start at 9:55 a.m.; the walk at 10:00 a.m.

AIDS Run & Walk Chicago features plenty of on-site entertainment, a Health & Fitness Village hosted and sponsored by the Illinois Department of Public Health, and several fundraising incentives. Highlights include:

•The top run & walk fundraiser will receive two round-trip tickets on American Airlines to anywhere in Europe (excluding Rome, Madrid and Milan).

•Among the roster of performers (entertaining before the run/walk, on the course route and after the run/walk) are: Chicago Spirit Brigade, R&B artist Adam Emil, Aperture, performances from Inaside Chicago Dance as well the Cerque Rivera Dance Theatre, and others.

Since it was established in 2001, AIDS Run & Walk Chicago has netted more than $3 million to battle the epidemic.
