'...having a Las Vegas residency has been pretty badass,' says Hernandez

Their clothes are going back on as the Las Vegas production of Naked Boys Singing closes its run at the Jewel Box Theatre at The Erotic Heritage Museum on Sunday, March 6.

David Hernandez – one of the six singing naked boys, who gained national fame years ago with his dynamic voice and affable personality as a Top 12 American Idol finalist – said Naked Boys Singing “changed my life for the better.”

“I'm so grateful to have been a part of that production. It's given me the confidence that I've never had and reignited my love for musical theater,” he said.

The rest of the cast was Robert Ryan, Matt Ludwinski, Louis D'Aprile, Marcus Terell and Jaden Lux.

Hernandez said the best part of this NBS team was “the comedic delivery and the cast.”

And, “having a Las Vegas residency has been pretty badass,” he added.

Hernandez could single out one favorite show from months of performances. He definitely enjoyed those with technical difficulties, when they were forced to improv. “I think some of the funniest moments come out of that which is why I love musical theater. It's the only place where that can happen,” he said.

Hernandez also enjoyed when friends or family came to the show.

“There's nothing sexual about the show because we're up there with our flaccid penises dancing around doing kick lines,” he said, laughing.

Hernandez, 38, will return to Los Angeles after NBS wraps, where he will continue to record and make music, and audition for film, television and theater.

He also will be promoting his upcoming release of his provocative new EP, “Don't @ Me” and its accompanying book of intimate photography, “#NSFW”.

“The EP is some of my proudest work to date. It's called 'Don't @ Me' which is basically saying, this is who I am and if you don't like it, keep it moving. I have so many incredible fans, but occasionally people slide into my DM's or the comment section and say some pretty nasty things. I wrote all the material on the EP and produced all my vocals in my home studio which I'm really proud of.”

Hernandez is dating Derek Caldera, who he met singing karaoke mid-week in West Hollywood at a video bar called Revolver.

So, what's the key to their relationship, especially with Hernandez's high-profile, always-traveling lifestyle?

“Either dating someone who can travel with me or someone who is very understanding and patient. Derek happens to be both, so I lucked out,” Hernandez said.
